SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Aug. 7, 2025 – Crews from the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) need to close the right lane of southbound Interstate 29 on Monday, Aug. 11, weather permitting, according to the Iowa DOT’s District 3 office.

Repairs will be made to repair flood damage to I-29 and the adjacent bike trail leading to Riverside Park in Sioux City. The trail has remained closed since last year’s flooding for public safety because the riverbank has not been fully repaired. Permanent repairs will include final stabilization of the interstate foundations and riverbank along the Big Sioux River, repaving the bike trail, and installation of a fence.

This project is expected to be completed in approximately two months, weather permitting. Once the project begins you will be able to see the work area on the Iowa DOT’s website at 511ia.org.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
