JEFFERSON, Iowa – Sept. 10, 2025 – If you travel on U.S. 169 and Iowa 175 between Dayton and Harcourt, in Webster County, you need to be aware of upcoming construction work that may slow down your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Jefferson Resident Construction Engineer office.

Beginning on Wednesday, Sept. 17, crews will close two sections of roadway during resurfacing reprojects which will involve milling the existing surface and adding a concrete overlay.

The project begins approximately 1,200 feet west of the east junction of U.S. 169 and Iowa 175 between Dayton and Harcourt.  A three-mile section will be resurfaced to Linden St. on the west edge of Harcourt.  The area through Harcourt will be gapped and construction will resume on U.S. 169 at the west junction of U.S. 169 and Iowa 175.

Construction will proceed northward on U.S. 169 for 11.7 miles to approximately a half mile south of U.S. 20.  During construction, the roadway will be closed. Traffic will be allowed to cross the construction area at most intersections daily, but there will be times that crossing is restricted due to the paving operation.

When each roadway is closed, detour routes will be in place. The Iowa 175/U.S. 169 closure east of Harcourt will follow a marked detour route using U.S. 169, County Road E-26, and Iowa 144. The U.S. 169 closure north of Harcourt will follow a marked detour route using U.S. 20, County Road P-29, Iowa 175 west of Harcourt, Iowa 144, and U.S. 30.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, be alert for agricultural equipment as harvest begins, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in work areas, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
