What you do behind the wheel can have an impact on the number of mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, and friends who are killed on Iowa highways. If every driver followed these four simple rules behind the wheel, everyone would be safer on the road.

  1. Pay attention -  Put your phone away and focus on the task of driving and nothing else.
  2. Buckle up – Make sure you and every passenger in your vehicle is buckled up. That means backseat passengers, too.
  3. Drive sober – If you have been drinking, even a little bit, stay put or find a sober ride.
  4. Slow down and drive chill – Especially this time of year with work zones popping up all over Iowa, slow down and try to relax behind the wheel. Driving too fast or too aggressively can not only endanger you, your passengers, and other drivers, it can harm workers in highway work zones.
