Des Moines, Iowa – March 7, 2024 – If you drive near the Interstate 35/I-80/I-235 northeast mixmaster you need to be aware of upcoming nighttime construction work that may impact your trip according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes construction office.
Beginning on Friday night, March 15, weather permitting, crews will close the north- and southbound lanes of I-235 to northbound I-35, and southbound I-35 to southbound I-235 so beams can be placed for the new bridge at I-35/I-80/I-235 east systems interchange. The closure is expected to start at10 p.m. Friday, March 15 and reopening of the road is set for 9 a.m. Saturday, March 16.
Starting on Monday, March 18 through Friday, March 22, the same closures will be in place each night from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
When lanes are closed and work is taking place, you will follow a marked detour to the NE 14th Street interchange and then back east to continue to northbound on I-35 or southbound on I-235 (see map).
Help keep everyone on the road safer. Drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, you should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
