Fairfield, Iowa – Aug. 2, 2024 – If you drive on Iowa 1 North/Iowa 92 West between Green Meadows Drive and Parkside Estate Road in Washington you need to be aware of an upcoming construction project that may slow down your trip according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 5 Office.

Beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 19, until Friday, Aug. 23, weather permitting, crews will close the road to traffic so repairs can be made to the railroad bridge over the roadway.

While the road is closed, you will be directed around the work zone using one of the following signed detour routes (see map).

  • If you want to travel on Iowa 1 North/Iowa 92 West, you will be detoured onto Iowa 92 East for about 1.6 miles by driving east on Madison Street, north on 2nd Avenue, east on Washington Street, then north on 12th Avenue which changes to Washington County Road W-61 for about 2.7 miles. You will then travel west on Washington County Road G-36/220th Street for 2 miles to reach the junction with Iowa 1 North.
  • If you want to drive to Washington on Iowa 1 South/Iowa 92 East, you will be detoured east on Washington County Road G-36/220th Street for about 2 miles, south on Washington County Road W-61, which changes to 12th Avenue, for approximately 2.7 miles, and then west on Iowa 92 West by driving on East Washington Street, 2nd Avenue, and West Madison Street for about 1.6 miles to reach the junction with Iowa 1 South.
  • If you are traveling along Iowa 1/Iowa 92 you will have access except for the lanes crossing under the railroad bridge between Green Meadows Drive and Parkside Estate Road.
