Grimes, Iowa – Oct. 16, 2024 – If you drive on eastbound Interstate 35/I-80 you need to be aware of upcoming nighttime construction work that may impact your trip according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes construction office.

Beginning at 10 p.m. on Tuesday night, October 22, weather permitting, crews will close eastbound I-35/80 at Iowa 415/NE 2nd Street and the ramp from Iowa 415/NE 2nd Street to eastbound I-35/I-80 (exit 135) so sign trusses can be installed. The roadway and ramp will be reopened by 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23.

When the eastbound lanes and ramp are closed and work is taking place, you will follow a marked detour route. You will travel north on Iowa 415/NE 2nd Street (exit 135), east on NE 66th Avenue, and then south on U.S. 69/NE 14th Street to reach eastbound I-35/I-80 (see map).

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
