Grimes, Iowa – Nov. 1, 2024 – If you drive on northbound Interstate 35/I-80 between the Southwest Mixmaster and the Iowa 141 interchange you need to be aware of upcoming nighttime construction work that may impact your trip according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes construction office.

Beginning at 10 p.m. on Tuesday night, Nov. 5, until 4 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, weather permitting, crews will close northbound I-35/80 from the Southwest Mixmaster to the Iowa 141 interchange so crews can open the Douglas Avenue ramps (exit 126) and shift traffic in the northbound lanes for the next phase of construction.

When the roadway is closed and work is taking place, you will follow a marked detour route. You will travel on I-235 and exit at Valley West Drive (exit 1B), travel north on Valley West Drive/100th Street to reach Northwest Urbandale Drive, and then travel on Northwest Urbandale Drive to reach the interchange with I-35/I-80/Iowa 141.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
