Grimes, Iowa – Nov. 7, 2024 – If you drive on eastbound Interstate 35/I-80 or east/northbound I-235 to reach northbound I-35 at the Northeast Mixmaster you need to be aware of upcoming nighttime construction work that may impact your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes construction office.
Beginning on Monday night, Nov. 11, weather permitting, crews will close east/northbound I-235 to northbound I-35 and the ramp from eastbound I-35/80 to northbound I-35 so crews can resurface northbound I-35 at the I-35/I-80/I-235 Northeast Mixmaster. The closures are expected to start at 10 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11 and will end at approximately 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12, when the roadway is reopened. The same closures will also take place from 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12 until 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov.13.
When the lanes are closed and work is taking place, you will follow a marked detour route that begins at the I-35/I-80/I-235 Northeast Mixmaster and takes you west on I-35/I-80 to U.S. 69/Northeast 14th Street (exit 136), north on U.S. 69/Northeast 14th Street to Northeast 66th Avenue/Corporate Woods Drive, and east on Northeast 66th Avenue/Corporate Woods Drive to reach northbound I-35 (see map).
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
