Ames, Iowa – March 5, 2025 – Windy conditions across the majority of the state continue to create low visibility and drifting snow resulting in hazardous driving conditions. Travel is not advised throughout most of the western half of the state. Many roadways are impassible due to crashed or stranded vehicles.
The Iowa Department of Transportation and Iowa State Patrol are working with other emergency partners to clear roads and crashes quickly but blowing snow can cause roadways to quickly become blocked again due to drifting and crashes.
Iowa DOT reminds travelers that trips during severe winter weather can take three or four times longer than normal. Motorists are urged to monitor weather and road conditions before traveling and delay the trip if at all possible. Road condition information is available from the resources listed below.
