Grimes, Iowa – April 2, 2025 – Nighttime construction work to remove the East 38th Street bridge over Interstate 80 will require closing east- and westbound I-80 to traffic during the week of April 9, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes Construction office.

Eastbound I-80 closure

Beginning at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, until 5 a.m. on Thursday, April 10, eastbound I-80 near East 38th Street will be closed to traffic.

Westbound I-80 closure

Beginning at 10 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, until 5 a.m. on Friday, April 11, westbound I-80 will be closed near East 38th Street.

If needed, a closure of I-80 near East 38th Street could take place at 10 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, until 5 a.m. on Monday, April 14.

When the road is closed you will follow a marked detour route that uses the U.S. 65 bypass, Hubbell Avenue, Euclid Avenue, and I-235 for eastbound I-80 (see map) and westbound I-80 (see map).

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
