Grimes, Iowa – April 2, 2025 – If you drive on NW 9th Street in Ankeny you need to be aware of an upcoming road closure that may slow down your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes construction office.
Beginning at 10 p.m. on Monday, April 7, until Friday, June 6, weather permitting, crews will close Northwest 9th Street west of U.S. 69 so crews can replace pavement. This is part of the pavement replacement project from 1st Street to 18th Street on U.S. 69.
When NW 9th Street is closed, you will follow a marked detour route. The detour uses U.S. 69/North Ankeny Boulevard, East 1st Street, and NW School Street. If you are east of U.S. 69 and are trying to cross on NW 9th Street, you will travel south on NE Grant Street to East 1st Street and follow the detour to NW School Street.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
