Grimes, Iowa – April 4, 2025 – If you use the northbound U.S. 65 ramp to reach westbound Interstate 80 in Altoona you need to be aware of nighttime closures of the ramp that may slow down your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes Construction office.

Crews will close the northbound U.S. 65 ramp to westbound I-80 from 10 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, until 4 a.m. on Monday, April 7, weather permitting. The ramp will be closed again from 10 p.m. on Monday, April 7, until 4 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8.

The ramp is being closed so work can be performed along the ramp and for the westbound I-80 widening project. When the ramp is closed you will follow a marked detour route that uses eastbound I-80, U.S. 65, and westbound I-80 (see map).

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
