Grimes, Iowa – April 11, 2025 – If you drive on Interstate 80/I-35 and U.S. 6/Hickman Road near the Hickman Road interchange you need to be aware of upcoming nighttime construction work and full closures of the roadway and ramps that may slow down your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes Construction office.

U.S. 6/Hickman Road full closures

  • Beginning at 9 p.m. on Monday, April 14 until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15, and again at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15 until 5 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16, weather permitting, crews will close the ramps and roadway for nighttime construction work.
  • If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the nighttime construction work will take place overnight on April 16 and 17.

I-80/I-35 full closures

  • Beginning at 10 p.m. on Monday, April 14, until 4 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15, and again at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, until 4 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, weather permitting, northbound I-80/I-35 will be closed between the I-80/I-35/I-235 Western Mixmaster to Iowa 141 (Exits 123B to 127B).
  • The backup date for this closure if weather doesn’t cooperate will be Thursday, April 17.
  • At 10 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, until 4 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16, southbound I-80/I-35 will be closed from Exit 127 to mile marker 124.

When the road and ramps are closed, you will follow a marked detour route that uses the NW Urbandale Drive, 100th Street, I-235, and I-35 (see map).

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
