MASON CITY, Iowa – April 21, 2025 – Work is moving forward on the Iowa 122 project in Mason City. Crews have finished stage one of the project ahead of schedule and are now prepared for stage two, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Mason City construction office.
The traffic pattern on Iowa 122 currently allows one lane of traffic in each direction at Pierce and Monroe Avenues. On Wednesday morning, April 23, until around Memorial Day, weather permitting, crews will switch the roadway to a head-to-head traffic pattern in the eastbound lanes of Iowa 122.
During this stage of the project there will be no left turns allowed on Iowa 122 or from any side streets between Pierce and Monroe Avenues. In addition, the intersection to access the hospital at Crescent and Taylor Avenues will also be closed for reconstruction. If you are driving west, you will access the hospital from Mercy Drive. When driving east you will access the hospital from Pierce Avenue (see map).
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
