MASON CITY, Iowa – May 6, 2025 – Crews are preparing for the next stage of construction on U.S. 65/Federal Avenue in Mason City, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Mason City construction office.
U.S. 65/Federal Avenue will be closed between 6th Street and 15th Street as the road reconstruction work moves south.
Beginning on May 12, access to all businesses along U.S. 65/Federal Avenue between 6th and 15th Street will be from side streets and alleyways. If you want to reach Wendy's and A-1 Used Cars you will need to travel from South Pennsylvania Avenue to 12th Street SE, then back to U.S. 65/Federal Avenue where pavement will remain in place so you can access the Wendy's parking lot (see map). The intersection at 15th street will remain open for east-west traffic.
All U.S. 65/Federal Avenue through traffic will follow a marked detour route.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
