NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – May 9, 2025 – If you drive on U.S. 218 from La Porte City to U.S. 20 in Black Hawk County you need to be aware of upcoming intermittent lane closures that may slow down your trip.
Beginning on Monday, May 12, until mid-November, weather permitting, crews will be working on hot-mix asphalt resurfacing of the roadway. As you drive through the work zone you should expect the following:
- Intermittent lane closures will be in place on the roadway during this project so all phases of work can be completed.
- Flaggers and pilot cars will direct you through the work zones.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
