GRIMES, Iowa – May 29, 2025 – On Monday, June 2, weather permitting, crews will be closing the access from NW Beaver Drive to Iowa 415 near Saylorville Lake so the intersection can be converted from a conventional four-way stop to a roundabout, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes construction office. This closure will be in place until the end of August 2025.
The project includes installing new pavement and drainage systems. Changing the intersection to a roundabout will accommodate projected future growth in the area as roundabouts often move more traffic compared to other intersection options.
When the access to Iowa 415 from NW Beaver Drive is closed, and you normally drive on the Iowa 415 mile-long bridge over Saylorville Lake to reach Polk City, you will need to follow a marked detour route that uses NW Beaver Drive, Merle Hay Road, NW 70th Avenue/East 1st Street, Iowa 141, and Iowa 415 (see map).
If you are traveling on Iowa 415 and want to reach NW Beaver Drive, you will follow a marked detour route that uses NW 112th Avenue, Iowa 415, NE 26th Street, NW 66th Avenue, and NW Beaver Drive (see map).
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
