SIOUX CITY, Iowa – June 9, 2025 – If you travel on U.S. 18 east of Ruthven in Palo Alto County, you need to be aware of an upcoming road closure that may slow down your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 3 Office.
Beginning on the morning of Monday, June 16, until Friday, June 27, weather permitting, crews will close U.S. 18 east of Ruthven so repairs can be made to the Canadian Pacific Kansas City railroad crossing.
When U.S. 18 is closed you will follow a marked detour route that will take you north on Palo Alto County Road N-18 at the intersection with U.S. 18. When you reach the intersection with Palo Alto County Road B-25 you will travel east to Palo Alto Road N-26, where you will turn north and travel until you reach Palo Alto County Road B-14. You will then travel east to Iowa 4, then you will go south until you reach U.S. 18.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
