GRIMES, Iowa – June 10, 2025 – If you drive on Interstate 35, I-80, and I-235 near the Northeast Mixmaster you need to be aware of upcoming overnight closures of ramps and roadways that may slow down your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes Construction office.
Closures of ramps and roadways will take place on the following days.
- 10 p.m. on Monday, June 16, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, June 17
- 10 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, to 5 a.m. Wednesday, June 18
On Monday, June 16, when eastbound I-80 is closed between the Northeast Mixmaster and U.S. 65 bypass, you will follow a marked detour that takes you on westbound I-235 to Euclid Avenue, east on Euclid Avenue to Hubbell Avenue, and north on Hubbell Avenue to I-80. Northbound U.S. 65 will also be closed between Hubbell Avenue and I-80. You will follow a marked detour route by traveling north on Hubbell Avenue to reach I-80 (see map).
On Tuesday, June 17, when eastbound I-80/I-35 between U.S. 69/NE 14th Street and the Northeast Mixmaster is closed, and I-235 westbound between the Northeast Mixmaster and Euclid Avenue is closed, the detour will use I-80/I-35 westbound, U.S. 69/NE 14th Street, Euclid Avenue, and eastbound I-235 (see map).
If weather delays the closures on Monday or Tuesday nights, the closures will happen on Wednesday, June 18 or Thursday, June 19.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
