AMES, Iowa – June 16, 2025 – Nighttime maintenance work to make a repair to the pavement on westbound Interstate 80 from the Northeast Mixmaster to the U.S. 65 bypass will require completely closing westbound I-80 to traffic from 10 p.m. Thursday, June 19, until 5 a.m. on Friday, June 20, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 1 office.

When westbound I-80 is closed, you will follow a marked detour route using U.S. 65, Hubbell Avenue, U.S. 6/East Euclid Avenue, and I-235 to reach westbound I-80 at the Northeast Mixmaster (see map).

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
