GRIMES, Iowa – June 16, 2025 – If you drive on U.S. 6/East Euclid Avenue in Des Moines you need to be aware of an upcoming closure that may slow down your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes Construction office.
Beginning at midnight on Saturday, June 21, until 11 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, weather permitting, crews will fully close U.S. 6/East Euclid Avenue in Des Moines between 6th Avenue and 2nd Avenue, so milling work and hot-mix asphalt overlay work can take place. There will be no access to U.S. 6/Euclid Avenue during this closure. This is part of the East Euclid Avenue reconstruction project between the Des Moines River Bridge and York Street.
When the roadway is closed you will follow a marked detour route that uses 2nd Avenue, University Avenue, and Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway (see map).
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
