AMES, Iowa – July 9, 2025 – Tell us what you think about the proposed bridge replacement on Iowa 149 over the CPKC railroad in Wapello County.

As part of this project, proposed improvements include:

  • Remove and replace the existing dual bridges.
  • Construct pavement and shoulders.
  • Construct paved shoulder and install steel and cable guardrail.

Construction will take place starting in the spring of 2028 and be completed by the fall of 2028.

Traffic on Iowa 149 will be maintained using a temporary crossover. Iowa 149 will be reduced from four lanes to a head-to-head traffic pattern so the bridges can be replaced.
