Nighttime Closure of the Iowa 9/WIS 82 Mississippi River Bridge and Iowa 26 North of the Bridge Scheduled for Sept. 9 and Sept. 10

MASON CITY, Iowa – Sept. 5, 2025 – If you travel on the Iowa 9/Wis 82 bridge over the Mississippi River, or Iowa 26 north of the bridge in Lansing, you need to be aware of an upcoming bridge and road closure that may slow down your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 2 Office.

Construction crews will be closing the Iowa 9/Wis 82 bridge over the Mississippi River in Lansing as well as Iowa 26 north of the bridge, from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, Sept. 9 and Sept. 10, weather permitting. 

Closure of the bridge and roadway will allow crews to bring in heavy equipment and build a crane on the Iowa side of the Mississippi River so work can begin on placing the steel framework on the new bridge.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
