Grading and paving work on U.S. 218 near Janesville begins Sept. 15

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – Sept. 9, 2025 – If you travel on U.S. 218 between Janesville and Waverly, you should be aware of upcoming construction work that may impact your route, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.

As part of a multi-year project to grade and pave U.S. 218 from the Cedar River in Janesville to Iowa 116 in Waverly, crews will begin work this season that requires the closure of Bremer County Road 260th Street for grading and paving.

The closure is scheduled to begin on Monday, Sept. 15, weather permitting, and will remain in place until mid-November. Please note that no signed detour will be provided by the county.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As always, stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
