GRIMES, Iowa – Sept. 30, 2025 – If you drive on westbound Interstate 80 between the Northeast Mixmaster and Northeast 29th Street in Polk County you need to be aware of an overnight road closure that may slow down your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes Construction office.
Crews need to close westbound I-80 from 10 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9, until 4 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, weather permitting, for removal of an overhead sign truss near mile marker 137.9.
When westbound I-80 is closed, you will follow a marked detour route that uses the westbound exit ramp from I-80 to northbound I-35, northbound I-35 to Corporate Woods Drive, and southbound I-35 from Corporate Woods Drive to westbound I-80.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
