GRIMES, Iowa – Oct. 9, 2025 – If you drive on U.S. 6/Hickman Road between the I-35/I-80 ramps, you need to be aware of an overnight road closure that may slow down your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes Construction office.

Crews need to close U.S. 6/Hickman Road between north- and southbound I-35/I-80 from 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, until 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, weather permitting. The closure is necessary for the crews to hang girders so that the southbound I-35/westbound I-80 interstate bridge over U.S. 6/Hickman Road can be widened. The I-35/I-80 on-ramps at Hickman Road will remain open.

When Hickman Road is closed, you will follow a marked detour route that uses NW 128th Street, University Avenue, and NW 114th Street.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
