Temporary overnight ramp closure of northbound U.S. 65 to westbound I-80 on-ramp (exit 141) scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 14

GRIMES, Iowa – Oct. 13, 2025 – If you drive on westbound Interstate 80 between U.S. 65 near Altoona and the Northeast Mixmaster you need to be aware of upcoming overnight ramp closures that may slow down your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes Construction office. 

The contractor needs to close the northbound U.S. 65 on-ramp to westbound I-80 (exit 141) overnight on Tuesday, Oct. 14, and Wednesday, Oct. 15, so ramp traffic can be shifted, lines can be painted, and temporary barrier rail can be installed.

Overnight on Thursday, Oct. 16, crews will close the on-ramp from westbound I-80 to westbound I-235 so milling work take place along the left side of the ramp. You will follow a marked detour route by traveling west and exiting at U.S. 69/NE 14th Street (exit 136), traveling on eastbound I-80, then exiting at westbound I-235 (exit 137).

Beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17, until late on Sunday, Oct. 19, there will be a continuous closure of the northbound U.S. 65 on-ramp to westbound I-80. Crews will work on connecting pavement to the ramp in that area during this ramp closure.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
