WEST BRANCH, Iowa – Oct. 15, 2025 – If you travel on Interstate 80 between Johnson and Cedar counties you need to be aware of upcoming traffic pattern changes, that may affect your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Iowa DOT Davenport construction office.
Starting next week, crews will open the new westbound I-80 lanes between West Branch and Iowa City. Westbound traffic will be shifted onto the new westbound lanes starting on Tuesday morning, Oct. 21, weather permitting.
Once traffic is shifted, crews will continue to finish median work before opening I-80 up to three lanes in each direction. You should be on the lookout for changing traffic patterns over the next couple weeks.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
