CHEROKEE, Iowa – Oct. 16, 2025 – The Iowa 3 bridge over the Little Sioux River in Cherokee is now open to traffic, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) District 3 office.
The project was advanced a year in response to the 2024 historic flood event’s impacts to the traveling public. The project included the bridge replacement, an addition of an overflow structure, and roadway improvements. This project on Iowa 3 is example of the Iowa DOT’s long-term focus on resiliency and efficiency. The new structures will ensure continuity and connectivity throughout the northwest Iowa region during future flooding events.
The Iowa DOT wishes to thank travelers of Iowa 3 for their patience during construction of the project.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
