AMES, Iowa – Oct. 24, 2025 – Tell us what you think about the proposed culvert replacement project on U.S. 63 between 510th and 525th Avenues in Poweshiek County.

Map of project area as described in text.

Improvements include:

  • Removing the existing culvert and constructing a new 16’ x 9’ box culvert in its place.
  • Grading to the new culvert will be completed and then a new roadway will be constructed over the culvert.
  • Constructing new shoulders along the roadway and reshaping ditches to meet the flowlines of the new culvert.

Construction will take place starting in the spring of 2027 and be completed by the fall of 2027. Additional right-of-way is required for the project.

To complete the project in a timely manner, U.S. 63 traffic will be closed to traffic and detoured around the project site. The detour route is tentatively proposed along County Road F57/Diamond Trail Road and Iowa 146. The detour route has not yet been finalized and requires an agreement with the affected local government agencies.
