ALTOONA, Iowa – Nov. 14, 2025 – If you drive on northbound U.S. 65 to reach westbound Interstate 80 and the Northeast Mixmaster you need to be aware of upcoming nighttime ramp closures that may slow down your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes Construction office.
Crews need to close the northbound U.S. 65 on-ramp to westbound I-80 and fully close westbound I-80 on the following nights so work can be completed to move traffic onto the new lanes of westbound I-80.
- On Wednesday night, Nov. 19, the northbound U.S. 65 ramp to westbound I-80 will be closed from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. A full closure of westbound I-80 will occur from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
- On Thursday night, Nov. 20, the northbound U.S. 65 ramp to westbound I-80 will be closed from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. A full closure of westbound I-80 will occur from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
- On Saturday night, Nov. 22, the northbound U.S. 65 ramp to westbound I-80 will be closed from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. A full closure of westbound I-80 will occur from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. The northbound I-35 exit ramp will remain closed until the morning of Monday, Nov. 24 when it reopens with traffic on the new pavement.
- On Sunday night, Nov. 23, the northbound U.S. 65 ramp to westbound I-80 will be closed from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. A full closure of westbound I-80 will occur from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
During the ramp and lane closures you will follow a marked detour route using U.S. 65, eastbound I-80, and then westbound I-80 to reach the Northeast Mixmaster.
When westbound I-80 is completely closed, you will follow a marked detour route using U.S. 65, U.S. 6/Hubbell Avenue, I-235, and westbound I-35/I-80.
At 4 a.m. on Monday morning, Nov. 24, westbound I-80 will be fully reopened to traffic on the new pavement.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
