MERRILL, Iowa – Nov. 17, 2025 – If you drive on U.S. 75 near Merrill you need to be aware of upcoming construction work at the BNSF railroad crossing that may slow down your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 3 Office.

In partnership with BNSF railroad, the Iowa DOT needs to close lanes and shift traffic in both directions of U.S. 75 at the BNSF railroad crossing south of Merrill on Tuesday, Nov. 25 and Wednesday, Nov. 26, weather permitting, so crews can safely replace the crossing control gates and structures.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
