AMES, IOWA – Nov. 21, 2025 – The Ames Driver License Service Center will relocate Monday to a new, more centralized location as part of the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) ongoing commitment to operational excellence and efficient use of state resources.
Beginning Monday, November 24 at 10:00 a.m., driver’s license and ID services will be available at 203 S. Grand Avenue in Ames, located within the DOT headquarters complex.
Customers should use the signalized driveway entrance at Grand Avenue, opposite the retail plaza. Iowa DOT will also post signs in the complex and is updating online search tools with the new address to guide customers to the correct location. Dedicated parking for driver’s license customers will be available on the east side of the building, with a clearly marked entrance surrounded by brick.
Transit riders may use CyRide’s Red route which services Lincoln Way on the north side of the DOT complex, and the Blue route which has stops on South 4th Street on the south side of the complex. There are sidewalks in and around the property to get to the 203 S Grand Avenue Driver License Service Center.
“We’re excited to move into a space that better serves our customers and makes us easier to find,” said Kathleen Meradith-Eyers, Director of the Motor Vehicle Division. “This move reflects our commitment to operational efficiency, reducing our footprint while delivering a great customer experience for the Ames community.”
To facilitate the move, both the existing and the new Ames locations will be closed on Thursday, November 20 and Friday, November 21.
Driver license customers are encouraged to schedule appointments at Ames or any Iowa DOT Service Center at https://iowadot.gov/drivers-licenses-ids/schedule-appointment.
As part of broader updates, visitors to the DOT headquarters should note that the main DOT entrance is now located at 800 Lincoln Way, on the north side of the building.
