AMES, Iowa – Dec. 11, 2025 – Tell us what you think about proposed improvements to Interstate 35, including the U.S. 30 interchange, in Story County.

Locations include:

  • North of County Road E-57/260th Street to North of U.S. 30
  • U.S. 30 in Ames from the Dayton Avenue interchange to east of I-35

Improvements include:

  • Replace and widen I-35 bridges over U.S. 30 in Ames.
  • Lower U.S. 30 to improve bridge clearance for I-35 bridges.
  • Widen I-35 to 6 lanes between Huxley and the U.S. 30 interchange in Ames.

During the reconstruction, each of the loop ramps at the U.S. 30/I-35 interchange will be closed and detoured during certain phases of construction. Traffic on U.S. 30 and I-35 will be maintained although there will be lane closures and overnight closures at times. Construction is expected to start Spring 2028 and end in Fall 2030.
