DAVENPORT, Iowa – Jan. 5, 2026 – If you travel on the Iowa 136 bridge over the Mississippi River between Clinton, Iowa and Fulton, Ill. you need to be aware of an upcoming closure of the bridge that could slow down your trip, according to the Iowa DOT’s Davenport construction office

Crews need close the Iowa 136 bridge over the Mississippi River daily between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. starting Monday, Jan. 5, until Friday, Jan. 9, weather permitting, so crews can perform annual bridge inspections.

During this closure you will follow a marked detour route that uses U.S. 67, Ill. Route 84, and U.S. 30, so you can cross the river.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
