DUBUQUE, Iowa – Feb. 6, 2026 – The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) will perform inspections on the Julien Dubuque Bridge on Tuesday, Feb. 10 and Wednesday, Feb. 11, weather permitting. The eastbound lanes of the bridge will be closed from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day to allow for the inspections.
Eastbound traffic on U.S. 20 will be detoured around the closure using U.S. 61/U.S. 151, and state highways 11 and 35 in Wisconsin and Illinois.
The inspections will allow for measurements of joints and other devices on the bridge to support the creation of materials needed for an upcoming rehabilitation project. That work is expected to begin in late May or early June.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
