GRIMES, Iowa – March 12, 2026 – If you drive on Northbound I-35/Eastbound I-80 between the interchanges at Merle Hay Road and Iowa 415, you need to be aware of lane closures that may slow down your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes Construction office.
Crews need to close 2 lanes of northbound I-35/eastbound I-80 beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, March 13, until 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, weather permitting. The closure is necessary for an emergency repair project. One lane of travel will be open and the ramp at Iowa 415 will also be open.
There is not a detour since there will be one lane of travel open; however, motorists are encouraged to use I-235 or other routes because delays are likely in the area.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
