SIDNEY, Iowa – April 9, 2026 – If you travel on Iowa 2 east of Sidney you need to be aware of an upcoming road closure that may slow down your trip.
Recent rains have delayed the start date of the pavement replacement on Iowa 2 east of Sidney. Crews will now start by patching the county roads on the detour route in preparation for the project on Monday, April 13 until Friday, April 17, weather permitting. There will be lane closures in place on Fremont County roads L-68 and J-32 and U.S. 59.
Iowa 2 will be closed to traffic starting on Monday, April 20 from .1 mile east of 342nd Avenue to the East Nishnabotna River. When this portion of the roadway is closed you will follow a marked detour route using U.S. 59 and Fremont County roads J-32 and L-68. Elder Corp is the contractor for this project.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
