RICEVILLE, Iowa – April 20, 2026 – If you travel on Iowa 9 from U.S. 218 to Riceville in Mitchell County you need to be aware of an upcoming road construction project that may slow down your trip according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.
Beginning on Wednesday, April 29, until early October, weather permitting, intermittent lane closures will be in place for a hot-mix asphalt pavement resurfacing project on Iowa 9.
When work is taking place, you will be guided through the work zone with flaggers and pilot cars.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
