DECORAH, Iowa – April 21, 2026 – Work on the Iowa 9 reconstruction project from U.S. 52 to near Pleasant Avenue in Decorah continues. Traffic is currently traveling on the inside lanes in each direction of Iowa 9.
Beginning on Monday, April 27, weather permitting, traffic will be placed in a head-to-head traffic pattern in the westbound lanes of Iowa 9 so the eastbound lanes can be reconstructed, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.
Traffic will be moved from the westbound lanes and placed into a head-to-head traffic pattern on the newly reconstructed eastbound lanes of Iowa 9 once they are completed. The same process will take place on the westbound lanes of Iowa 9.
You will be able to access side streets from Iowa 9 with right-in and right-out turns only. When a staged side road closure is in place during this project the City of Decorah will provide a marked detour route for you to follow. Access to businesses and residences will be maintained during this project that is expected to be completed by late November.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
