AMES, Iowa – June 1, 2026 – Tell us what you think about the proposed bridge replacement on U.S. 6 over Stony Creek 0.4 miles west of the junction with County Road V18 in Poweshiek County.
Improvements include:
- Removing and replacing the existing bridge with a longer and wider concrete bridge.
- Roadside features will be upgraded, including widening the shoulders, flattening the side slopes for safety, and moving a field entrance to avoid nearby utility poles.
Construction will take place starting in the spring of 2028 and be completed in the fall of 2028.
Traffic on U.S. 6 will be detoured during construction of the new bridge. The detour route will use County Road V18/Jackson St., County Road F29/2nd St, and U.S. 63. This detour adds 2.2 miles and is expected to be in place for approximately 180 days while the new bridge is built.
