NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – June 3, 2026 – Drivers on Iowa 76 should expect a road closure beginning Monday, June 15, weather permitting, for bridge approach repairs at Bloody Run Creek bridge located within the City of Marquette, approximately 0.2 miles south of the north junction with U.S. 18.
Work on this project was originally scheduled for completion last year but was delayed. It is expected to wrap up by late July, weather permitting.
The closure will affect travel on Iowa 76 between the two river towns of Marquette and McGregor. Residents, visitors, and businesses should anticipate detours and additional travel time during this project.
During the closure of Iowa 76 drivers will follow a marked detour using U.S. 18, Klein Brewery Road, Main Street and River Street. Digital message boards will alert drivers in advance. Pedestrian access across the bridge will also be closed.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
