DUBUQUE, Iowa – June 19, 2026 – If you travel on the U.S. 20/Julien Dubuque Bridge over the Mississippi River between Dubuque, Iowa and East Dubuque, Ill., be aware of the updated lane closure times.
With construction work requiring closure of the eastbound lane, the project requirement is to open the eastbound lane to traffic from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. To maximize their work time, the contractor plans on closing the eastbound lane at 6 p.m. nightly so crews can work into the evening and get an early start the next morning. It is also anticipated that the lane will remain closed over the weekend.
If work on the bridge is not performed on any specific day, due to unexpected weather events, the eastbound lane may opened. Please watch the message boards for updates on whether the eastbound lane is open or closed.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
