WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – June 26, 2026 – If you travel west on Interstate 80 from the I-35/I-80/I-235 Southwest Mixmaster in West Des Moines you need to be aware of an upcoming nighttime road closure that may slow down your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Creston construction office.
Crews need to close westbound I-80 at 8:30 p.m. Monday, July 6, until 5 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, weather permitting, so signs can be removed from the roadway.
During this closure, you will follow a marked detour route that takes you west on University Avenue and south on Grand Prairie Parkway to reach westbound I-80 (Exit 118).
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
