WATERLOO, Iowa — July 1, 2026 — Drivers on U.S. 218 in Waterloo should expect continuous single-lane closures in both directions from the west U.S. 63 interchange to the Cedar River bridge starting Monday, July 6, through mid-October, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation's (DOT) New Hampton construction office.
Crews will resurface the roadway with hot-mix asphalt. Some work will happen at night, when traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction. At least one lane will always stay open in each direction.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
