WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – July 2, 2026 – If you drive on westbound Interstate 80 in West Des Moines you need to be aware of upcoming closures that may affect your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Creston Construction office.
Construction crews need to close the westbound I-80 entrance ramp from the Southwest Mixmaster to Grand Prairie Parkway nightly on Tuesday, July 14, Wednesday, July 15, and Thursday, July 16 from 8:30p.m. to 5 a.m., weather permitting, as part of the I-80 widening project. Work includes setting bridge beams and removing signs on trusses.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
