DES MOINES, Iowa – July 19, 2026 – Crews are repairing the railroad bridge over Iowa 415/NW 2nd Street between NW Aurora Avenue and NE Broadway Avenue that was struck by a truck and collapsed on the northbound lanes on July 17. Both the north- and southbound lanes are currently closed to traffic, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 1 Office.
Drivers who normally use this stretch of Iowa 415/NW 2nd Street should follow a marked detour route using NE Broadway Avenue, U.S. 69/NE 14th Street, and U.S. 6/Euclid Avenue until the roadway is reopened.
After the bridge and railroad tracks are replaced, DOT staff will inspect the road for any damage and make repairs. The damaged guardrail along the roadway will also be replaced. Crews expect to open the roadway by approximately Wednesday night, July 22.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
