WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — July 22, 2026 — If you travel on Interstate 80 between the Southwest Mixmaster and Grand Prairie Parkway, be aware of upcoming overnight road closures that may slow your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation's Creston construction office.
Crews will close westbound I-80 for three nights to complete a patching project:
- Crews will close westbound I-80 beginning Tuesday, July 28, at 8:30 p.m. between the Southwest Mixmaster and Grand Prairie Parkway. It will reopen at 5 a.m. the following morning.
- The overnight closure will also be in effect from 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. on the nights of Wednesday, July 29, and Thursday, July 30.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
