DUBUQUE, Iowa – Aug. 6, 2026 – Drivers who use the U.S. 20/Julien Dubuque Bridge between Dubuque, Iowa and East Dubuque, Ill., will be happy to learn that the bridge will be opening soon.

All lanes on the bridge will be restored to normal operations at approximately 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7.

However, there will still be lane closures for eastbound U.S. 20 traffic. The eastbound lane will be closed on working days but reopen for the evening commute and non-working days. This traffic pattern will remain in place until late September. This will allow crews to finish painting the bridge and apply concrete sealers to the deck and rail.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
