NEW HAMPTON, Iowa — Aug. 21, 2026 — Work on a bridge deck overlay project on U.S. 18, 0.1 mile west of Fayette County Road W-14, will begin Monday, Aug. 24, and finish by early October, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation's New Hampton construction office.

  • Temporary traffic signals will control all four legs of the U.S. 18 and Fayette County Road W-14 intersection.
  • A 15-foot lane-width restriction will be in place.
  • A 15-foot vertical clearance restriction will be in place because of the temporary traffic signals.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
